Role Overview
As Head of Parks Management, you will lead the operational oversight, maintenance, and development of public parks and gardens. The role involves strategic planning, team supervision, project delivery, and ensuring high standards of safety, cleanliness, and sustainability across all managed sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations across all parks under the unit, supervise sub-teams, and ensure consistency and efficiency in service delivery.
- Infrastructure Maintenance & Projects: Plan and execute internal projects and infrastructure improvements, manage contractors and in-house teams, and support cross-functional project delivery.
- Security & Safety Oversight: Coordinate security measures, respond to incidents such as vandalism or hazards, and liaise with local authorities to enhance park safety.
- Cleaning & Waste Management: Set cleaning standards, manage contracted or in-house cleaning teams, ensure sustainable waste disposal, and conduct quality audits with corrective actions as needed.
- Resource Management: Manage budgets, procurement, and logistics, oversee staff deployment, performance, and professional development, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Reporting & Compliance: Provide regular reports to senior management on KPIs, project progress, and incidents, ensuring all operations meet statutory requirements.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6) in Civil Engineering, Facilities Management, Operations Management, or a related field recognised by MQRIC.
- Experience: At least five years of experience in infrastructure, facilities, or operations management.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting reports and leading teams effectively.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with staff, stakeholders, and the public, fostering a collaborative and respectful environment.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of infrastructure maintenance, facilities management, project planning, and operational systems relevant to parks management.
- Organisation: Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-Motivated: Highly driven, proactive, and able to work independently while maintaining high standards of performance.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address operational, logistical, and strategic challenges.
