Richmond Foundation
The Foundation was founded by Anthony Guillaumier who, in the 1980s, started becoming aware of the lack of community support for people with mental heath problems. Back then Mr Guillaumier, a businessman, noticed that some of his employees struggled with mental health issues but had no one to turn to. Meanwhile, a close relative of his battled with depression and the stigma surrounding the condition.
It was round about that time that he came across an advert of the UK-based Richmond Fellowship, a voluntary sector provider of mental health services, while on a business flight to London. He reached out to the fellowship and the rest is history.
Backed by the Maltese government that recognised the gap in services, the Foundation was set up on May 13 1993. Today the Foundation, a registered non-governmental and non-profit making organisation (VO/0017), has established itself as Malta’s leading NGO in the provision of community services for people with mental health problems. It is at the forefront of the promotion of good mental health and the prevention of mental illness amongst the public.
Every year hundreds of people with mental health problems and their loved ones make use of our services. This is possible thanks to the dedication and passion of our team, as well as the invaluable contribution of our volunteers and sponsors.
Richmond Foundation is a member of the Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks–Europe (GAMIAN-Europe), the European Anti-Poverty Network, the Malta Federations of NGOs and the Malta Health Network.
