IFRS 18

IFRS 18 replaces IAS 1 for financial periods starting on or after 1 January 2027, with comparatives also presented under IFRS 18.

IFRS 18 changes the way entities present financial performance. This two-hour overview course gives participants a clear and practical understanding of what is shifting, why it matters, and how the new structure enhances the story that financial statements communicate. Many professionals have followed the headlines but haven’t had the time to dive into the full standard. This session bridges that gap immediately, offering a focused explanation that helps accountants, auditors, preparers and finance leaders grasp the heart of IFRS 18 efficiently.

We begin by exploring the fundamental shift from IAS 1 to IFRS 18, outlining what truly changes and what remains familiar. From there, we unpack the new required subtotals, operating profit, profit before financing and income taxes, and profit before income taxes, explaining their purpose and how they bring consistency and clarity to performance reporting. The course then moves into the new categories introduced by the standard: operating, investing, financing, income taxes and discontinued operations. This section provides a practical, example-driven understanding of how to classify income and expenses correctly, and where entities often could get stuck.

A significant part of the session is dedicated to the new discipline imposed on Management-Defined Performance Measures (MDPM). We walk through what qualifies as an MDPM, how these metrics must now be explained and reconciled, and the common pitfalls that preparers need to avoid.

In addition, the course addresses the strengthened guidance on disaggregation and the enhanced explanatory notes, showing how IFRS 18 encourages greater transparency without overwhelming users. Throughout the course, relatable examples keep the learning grounded, ensuring that the concepts are not only understood but retained.

This course is designed for anyone who prepares, reviews or communicates financial results, whether in practice or industry and who wants to adapt early and confidently to IFRS 18. In just two hours, participants walk away with a clear mental model, practical classification rules, and the ability to communicate these changes effectively to others. The session is structured, focused and genuinely useful, helping professionals raise their reporting quality at a time when clarity and consistency matter more than ever.
