The Role
As an Academic Manager, you hold overall responsibility for the academic programme at one of our EF schools in Malta. This is a year-round part-time position with a seasonal workload:
- Full-time commitment during our peak summer period (June–August)
- Reduced hours from September to May, focused on planning, development, training, and academic continuity
Across the year, the role averages approximately 50% workload, offering a balance between high-energy summer delivery and lower-intensity academic management during the off-season.
You will lead, manage, and coach a team of EFL teachers through classroom observations, feedback, and ongoing development. You will also deliver trainings, develop and implement online inductions, and support teachers with lesson planning, academic administration, and classroom management.
This is a dynamic leadership role suited to someone who enjoys both hands-on academic delivery and longer-term academic planning and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
Year-Round Responsibilities
- Academic leadership, quality assurance
- Planning and updating academic procedures, inductions, and training materials
- Teacher recruitment, onboarding, and off-season teacher engagement where required
- Maintaining academic records, documentation, and system data
- Collaboration with senior staff to ensure alignment across departments
Peak Season (June–August) Responsibilities
- Setting up the school and ensuring all classrooms meet EF specifications
- Allocating teachers, classrooms, and students, including hands-on class placement at the start of the season
- Managing academic stock (exam papers, certificates, teaching equipment)
- Full management of teaching staff and daily academic operations
- Coordinating timetables and maintaining EF production systems
- Collating and reviewing academic paperwork
- Ensuring welfare and discipline within the classroom
- Handling problems and emergency situations as they arise
- Delivering initial teacher briefings, daily and weekly meetings
- Conducting teacher observations, feedback, and development sessions
Candidate Profile
- Face-to-face TEFL qualification (e.g. CELTA or Cert. TESOL, minimum 100 hours)
- Candidates completing qualifications in the current academic year will be considered
- Minimum six months’ teaching experience or one EF summer season
- Enthusiastic, organised, and a confident people leader
- Proactive and capable of using own initiative
- Business-minded with strong customer service skills and attention to detail
- Full fluency in English
- Legal right to live and work in Malta
