Assistant Maintenance Manager

We are currently looking for an Assistant Maintenance Manager to join our projects and maintenance team to be part of our latest expansion and upcoming development in St. George's Bay, Malta. An exceptionally designed and built destination that includes a 5* Hard Rock Hotel, luxury homes, renowned restaurants and an upscale shopping mall that is set to add tremendous value to the local area.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Apart from the day-to-day jobs, s/he must :

  • Check for the smooth operation of any works carried out in the Hotel, also to adjust tasks depending on priorities including schedules, and instruct the best ways to do the work.
  • Planning for in-house and out-contracted works for timeline and executions.
  • To prepare and coordinate preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
  • Report progress of works and correspond with the Maintenance Manager and other Heads of Departments on works related to other departments or areas that may impact operation.
  • Deputize in case Maintenance Manager is absent.
  • Check daily jobs inserted on maintenance software vs. jobs done to monitor staff productivity.
  • Investigate first hand any issues that arise and implement solutions in consultation with superior.
  • Support technicians specific jobs as it may be necessary.
  • Inspect facilities periodically to determine problems and necessary maintenance.
  • Inspect and maintain building systems (cooling, heating, ventilation, etc.).
  • Oversee contractors and tradesmen during installations, repairs, or maintenance (electricians, plumbers, etc.).
  • Contribute to the development of the maintenance budget.
  • Monitor inventory of materials and equipment and bring necessary quotes from suppliers or contractors where necessary.
  • Sign purchase orders and invoices for material requested. Check material and out contracted works’ quotes for the best prices.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Recruit, supervise, and train maintenance technicians.
  • Participate in the coordination of projects (e.g. renovations).
  • To identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions in maintenance activities.
Educational and skill requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in the same/similar position, preferably within the hospitality industry.
  • A Higher Technical Diploma (HTD) in a related technical field or equivalent qualification.
  • Applicants with an electrical Licence A or B will be preferred.
  • Familiarity with the latest HVAC, ELV systems.
  • Being a highly motivated and pragmatic person with a hands-on approach.
