Draughtsperson

Operational Responsibilities

  • Liaise with clients, consultants, engineers, and stakeholders to understand design requirements.
  • Prepare accurate technical drawings, schematics, and plans using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
  • Update drawings throughout the project lifecycle in line with client changes, site instructions, or design revisions.
  • Conduct site evaluations and measurements to support design accuracy.
  • Provide technical input during planning and execution phases and collaborate with Operations on project coordination.
  • Attend site and coordination meetings to ensure design intent is implemented correctly.
  • Coordinate with the Procurement team by providing technical specifications required for purchasing materials.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain organised records of drawings, revisions, design files, and technical documentation.
  • File and track variations, approvals, and client communications related to technical changes.
  • Assist with the preparation of handover documentation, including as-built drawings.
  • Support contract close-out documentation relating to technical deliverables.

Quality Responsibilities

  • Ensure all drawings meet DLI quality standards and client requirements.
  • Validate information collected from site visits before incorporating it into project drawings.
  • Support the continuous improvement of design practices and internal drafting standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and quality audits as required.

HSE Responsibilities

  • Follow DLI’s Health & Safety requirements during all site visits.
  • Identify and report any hazards related to design issues observed on-site.
  • Ensure design considerations reflect safe installation and maintenance practices.

Asset Responsibilities

  • Safeguard company tools, including laptops, CAD software, surveying tools, and design equipment.
  • Report any damage or malfunction of work tools promptly.
  • Ensure software licences and tools are updated and used responsibly.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input to assist QS and procurement teams with material quantities or specifications when requested.
  • Support cost-control discussions by offering design-related clarification.

Reporting Responsibilities

  • Provide regular progress updates to the Draughting & QS Manager.
  • Prepare drawing registers, revision logs, and reports on pending design deliverables.
  • Highlight any risks or delays related to design tasks.

  • Maintain professionalism and respect when engaging with colleagues, clients, and site staff.
  • Adopt a solutions-oriented approach and collaborate effectively with multiple disciplines.

Training Responsibilities

  • Stay updated on industry standards, CAD techniques, and new design technologies.
  • Participate in internal training and share knowledge with junior team members.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma/Degree in Draughting, Engineering, Construction, or related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / CAD software is essential.
  • Valid driving licence preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in drafting within the construction or MEP industry.
