The Due Diligence function is responsible for conducting due diligence checks on persons being proposed to take on approved positions within entities licensed by the MFSA. This necessitates a close collaboration between the different functions of the MFSA both of a supervisory and regulatory capacity in order to carry out its work more effectively. Among its many duties, the function is responsible for carrying out probity screenings in relation to all qualifying shareholders as well key functionaries within a licensed entity. The Due Diligence Function is responsible for carrying out ongoing checks, on a risk-based approach, to verify that approved persons are still of good repute.
The Role
You will be responsible for the following duties:
- Carrying out due diligence (DD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) checks and enquiries on individuals/entities;
- Conducting reviews of application documentation submitted to the function as part of the DD and/or EDD process;
- Screening of problem/high risk involvements;
- Carry out ongoing checks on a risk-based approach to verify that approved persons are of good repute;
- Carrying out Internet searches and investigations, both reactive and proactive;
- Analysing, assessing, discussing and presenting of findings of investigations;
- Preparing investigation reports, memos and correspondence;
- Coordination and cooperation with other functions;
- Contribute towards internal policy development;
- Contribute towards the growth of the due diligence function and its standing within the Authority;
- Other duties and tasks as may be assigned by senior management.
About You
To qualify for this job, you will need to have academic qualification in Financial Services, Criminology or in another related subject at National Qualification Framework Level 6 (MQF6) or better. If your qualifications are not Maltese, please make sure that they are certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.
A sound knowledge of financial services legislation and familiarity with the financial service’s regulatory framework and a relevant Post-Graduate Degree would be considered as an advantage.
If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but have at least five (5) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.
