About the Department
Conduct Supervision is responsible for the setting up and implementation of the regulatory framework aiming to secure appropriate consumer protection in operations of licence holders in the financial services industry in order to ensure that clients of financial services are treated fairly, honestly, and professionally by regulated entities. The Function adopts a pre-emptive supervisory approach which addresses potential or emerging risks for financial services consumers, together with an ongoing supervisory process to strengthen and verify the adherence by regulated persons of their conduct of business regulatory obligations. The Conduct Supervision Function is a cross-sectorial function covering under its remit supervision of the conduct of business of the entities dealing with retail clients in the context of the provision of services relating to banking, insurance and pensions, investments, cryptocurrencies, and retail collective investment schemes.
About the role
We are looking for a talented individual to join the Financial Promotion & Risk Assessment Team within Conduct Supervision. The main responsibilities of the selected candidate includes but are not limited to the following tasks:
- Coordinating the monitoring of the financial promotions and websites of the regulated entities on a cross-sectorial basis (investments, insurance, banking and fintech), to ensure that the regulatory requirements in this regard are being complied with;
- Coordinating the reviews of the periodic Conduct Related Returns submitted by regulated entities (investments, insurance, banking and fintech) to identify emerging trends, ensure compliance with the Authority's reporting standards and submit the relevant conduct related questionnaires to the European Supervisory Authorities;
- Participating in internal projects in relation to the implementation and/or updates of conduct related returns
- Liaising with licence holders with respect to the monitoring of financial promotions and websites, as well as the review of conduct related returns
- Mentor, coach, train and act as referral point for other analysts in the carrying out of their respective duties
- Undertake any other duties / ‘ad-hoc’ tasks as delegated by the Function’s senior management in line with the exigencies of the Conduct Function and the Authority.
About You
We are looking for candidates with solid academic background in Financial Services. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level and you also possess a minimum of five (5) years of working experience in the financial services sector.
If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.
The following skills and attributes are important for this position:
- Have a sound knowledge of the financial services industry, and interest in the area of Consumer Protection and/or Regulatory Reporting;
- Willingness to expand knowledge and stay up-to-date with regulatory developments across sectors (investments, insurance, banking and fintech), ensuring a comprehensive understanding of evolving industry standards and practices;
- Attention to details and well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
- Flexibility, proactivity and critical thinking;
- Proficiency in the use of Excel
- A good team player
- Previous experience in marketing compliance and/or regulatory reporting/data analysis is considered a plus.
The preferred candidate will be given various opportunities to learn and be trained for the role, through various mechanisms which the Authority holds such as the Financial Supervisors Academy and on the job training.
