Underwriter Life Operations

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and analytically strong Life Underwriter to join our underwriting team. In this role, you will assess risk, evaluate applications, and make sound underwriting decisions that balance customer needs with business objectives. You’ll work closely with advisors, medical professionals, and internal teams to deliver accurate, timely, and customer‑centric outcomes.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Evaluate life insurance applications by analysing medical, financial, and lifestyle information. 
  • Assess risk in line with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies. 
  • Determine appropriate ratings, exclusions, or decisions based on risk assessment. 
  • Request and interpret additional evidence such as medical reports, lab results, financial statements, and third‑party data. 
  • Collaborate with sales teams, advisors, and customer service to clarify requirements and support proposal progress. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all decisions are clearly justified and compliant. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting processes, tools, and guidelines. 
  • Support training, knowledge sharing, and development of junior underwriters where required. 
  • Stay updated on industry trends, medical advancements, and regulatory changes impacting underwriting.

  • Ability to balance risk assessment with commercial awareness.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously. 
  • Comfortable working independently and within a collaborative team environment.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in a related field (insurance, finance, science, business, or similar). 
  • Prior underwriting experience required in Life Insurance.
