Volunteering is one of the most important manifestation of social activity and active citizenship, which is becoming even more necessary in an age where traditional community functions may be weakening. To ensure that volunteer organizations are supported in their work, programs and services need to be offered in support of both the organisation as well as the individual volunteer. The Volunteer Centre will serve primarily to foster and develop volunteerism in the community as a whole as well as support small and medium sized voluntary organisation in their operation. In general it will support four main areas: The promotion of volunteerism, capacity building for effective local volunteering, provide leadership on issues relating to volunteerism, support networking between VOs and connect people, and serve as a base from which small and medium voluntary organisations can operate.

Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector

The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector is currently looking for youth volunteers to be part of project CLIVE (Combatting Loneliness &amp; Isolation with Volunteers in Europe); a project funded by the European Solidarity Corps Programme which involves the following countries – Malta, Italy, Poland, Belgium and Portugal. The aim of this project is to reverse the negative effects that prolonged isolation has had on social cohesion and people’s mental health. Volunteers will be organising a number of workshops related to the use of technology (e.g. how to order groceries online/how to use WhatsApp or Skype) combined with music and art workshops which will promote active ageing. Costs: Accommodation and food expenses will be covered (Maltese volunteers can choose to return home at the end of each day) + €5 pocket money is provided daily
