The Role
We are looking to add a highly capable accounting clerk to support the daily operations of the finance team. Although this is a remote position, the candidate must reside in Malta. Your job will be to keep books, manage our accounting system for several of our operating, real estate, lending & venture capital investment companies. You will assist with reporting as well as tax and regulatory compliance on the entities across Malta, Ireland, US, UK, and other jurisdictions.
Responsibilities Include:
— Booking & reconciling purchases, sales, bank transactions, and any other day-to-day accounting records
— Assist with related functions such as purchase order workflow, budgeting, making payments, etc
— VAT Reporting & Reconciling - along with understanding EU and cross-border VAT treatment
— Participate in month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, etc
— Prepare and interpret financial summaries and provide reports to managers on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
— Assist with year-end audit requests
— Assist in querying and approving staff expenses
— Bank account management; assisting in opening the account, submitting forms, etc
— Help respond to KYC/AML requests from service providers and institutions
— Represent the company in Malta, including acting as Director for certain companies, with support from teams in the UK & Ireland
— Other ad-hoc and admin requests
Required Skills:
— Proficiency with excel & basic math
— Excellent spoken and written English
— Knowledge of basic financial, tax, and accounting principles
— Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
— Comfortable in a remote-first position
— Eagerness to learn more about financial planning, tax strategy, and budgeting
Preferred Qualifications:
— Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, mathematics, or similar
— One or two years of experience in clerical accounting, bookkeeping, or similar roles
