Airfield Operative

Malta International Airport plc is looking for dynamic individuals who are passionate about working with people within an Airport environment and are willing to continuously learn, develop, and be part of a high-performance culture. This vacancy has arisen within the Technical Facilities Department on a full-time basis.

Purpose of Position:

To be responsible for the maintenance and keeping both the airfield and paved areas in optimal conditions.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Repair and maintenance of asphalt and concrete pavements.
  • Repair pavement area by excavating to grade or by removing defective concrete or asphalt with jackhammer, power saw or excavation equipment.
  • Determine proper mix, prepare and pour paving material; finish surfaces with manual and powered hand tools.
  • Repair pavement cracks by means of Crack-sealant equipment and materials
  • Keep runway paint markings in pristine condition by spray painting using road line spray painting machine.
  • Perform regular inspections of airfield facilities.
  • Execute repair of airfield perimeter Fence
  • Use manual tools including shovels, axes, rakes, hoes, and other equipment.
  • Operate powered equipment including, air compressors, router, jackhammer, circular saw.
Educational and skill requirements
  • Completed secondary education successfully.
  • Be in possession of a clean Police conduct.
  • One (1) year experience in construction, landscaping, grounds-keeping, mowing or related experience.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be in possession of an Airfield Driving Permit (ADP) or should hold a valid driving license (Cars, Category B) and be willing to obtain an ADP.
  • Ability to operate a variety of powered and mobile equipment to maintain grounds and airfield areas.
  • Ability to operate manual and powered tools and equipment to plant and maintain turf, trees, shrubs, ground cover, and other plants.
  • Knowledgeable or willing to learn about the Airport processes.

Working Hours:

  • Shift-based schedule on a rotating roster: Day / Night / Rest / Off (6:00 – 18:00 / 18:00 – 6:00).

Includes weekends and public holidays.

Salary:

  • €23,166 basic salary.
  • Approx. 14% shift allowance on basic salary.
  • Approx. total remuneration: €26,409 per annum (gross).
