Our History
Malta MedAir (registered under the name of Malta Air Travel Ltd) is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Malta with an authorized share capital of US 83.944 million. The company was set up and duly registered on the 10th January 2018.
Malta Air Travel is a completely distinct company from other airlines operating in Malta, and is trading under the name of Malta MedAir. The operating licence from the Maltese Aviation Authority was obtained on the 15th of March 2018 and the first commercial flight was on the 27th of March 2018, a flight undertaken on behalf of the national airline – Air Malta.
Malta MedAir has, on its own balance sheet, an Airbus 320 and the 4 times daily, take-off and landing rights at the Heathrow and Gatwick airports to Malta, and is pursuing plans to continue to grow its business and reach further afield in the years to come.

Deputy Head of Safety & Compliance
Malta MedAir is currently seeking to recruit an experienced aviation professional for the position of Deputy Head of Safety & Compliance. This role will support the Head of Safety & Compliance in ensuring full regulatory compliance within an EASA-regulated and IOSA environment. The selected candidate must be capable of immediate operational deployment with minimal onboarding.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Support the Head of Safety & Compliance in maintaining the Compliance Monitoring Programme in accordance with EU Regulation 965/2012 (Air OPS), EU Regulation 1321/2014 (Part-CAMO / Part-145), and IOSA Standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct internal and external compliance audits across operational departments.
- Develop and maintain audit plans and audit checklists.
- Monitor and ensure the timely closure of audit findings and corrective actions.
- Oversee the compliance of contracted and subcontracted organisations.
- Liaise with the Competent Authority during regulatory surveillance activities.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure appropriate internal dissemination.
- Support operational risk oversight and Safety Management System activities.
- Assist in safety data monitoring, occurrence reporting oversight, and trend analysis.
- Maintain compliance and safety documentation and support governance meetings (SRB/MRB).
Educational and skill requirements
- Proven experience in a Compliance Monitoring or Safety role within an EASA AOC environment.
- Strong working knowledge of EU Regulation 965/2012 and EU Regulation 1321/2014.
- Working knowledge of Occurrence Reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of IOSA Standards will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting audits and managing corrective actions.
- Experience with Flight Operations audits will be considered an asset.
- Experience liaising with aviation authorities.
- Solid understanding of Safety Management Systems and risk assessment principles.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and organisational skills.
- High level of integrity and professional judgement.
