Klabb 3-16 - Tutor

Tutors are expected to work between 3.00pm and 5.00pm from the end of September till end of May and between 12:30pm till 2:30pm in June with a required minimum of three shifts per week.Tutors will not be rostered during scholastic holidays – however tutors might be asked to provide for availabilities during scholastic holidays to work as playworkers or child support workers.

Employees will be required to provide a minimum of three shifts per week. Those who provide the most availability will be given priority. Those with limited availability need to speak to the HR Department to discuss a way forward. Employees will be rostered according to the exigencies of the centre.

Job Purpose

The Tutor's role is to help students:

  • Achieve better mental focus, time management, and organisation skills.
  • Understand different academic concepts.
  • Complete homework assignments to the best of the student’s ability.
  • Improve writing and numerical skills.
  • Help form a positive social environment with other students.
  • Learn to feel like respected and valued members of the school community.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend a tutor training session as directed by the Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Suitably honour the roster issued by the Centre Co-ordinator, unless otherwise advised.
  • Assist learners with their homework, and with reading and writing skills and activities.
  • Respond to emails and/or phone calls from the Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Keep record of attendance and activities completed with the learner, using the forms provided by FES.
  • Participate in organising special events and activities for students.
  • Provide appropriate feedback wherever necessary to the Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Other duties that may be delegated to him/her by his/her seniors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for the group of students being assigned to them on the day with respect to:

  • Academic work
  • Class control
  • Health and safety of the children
  • Keeping record of work

Supervision Received:

  • The post-holder shall be accountable to the Centre Co-ordinator or his/her delegate.
  • The post-holder will be expected to work without constant supervision.
  • The post holder might be required to perform other duties in specific programmes
Educational and skill requirements

Eligibility Criteria

By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must be in possession of the below eligibility criteria:

  1. A detailed CV;
  2. Valid Teacher’s Warrant (or provide latest Valid Temporary Warrant) ; or Deployment Notification form or letter from school confirming the employment in case the Temporary Teacher warrant has not been issued. 
  3. Teaching Degree (MQF Level 6, or higher) or Deployment Notification form in case the Temporary Teacher warrant has not been issued. 
  4. Employment history issued by Jobsplus as proof of required experience (obtained within the past six months); 
  5. Ability to communicate in Maltese and English; foreign applicants are required to present proficiency certificate equivalent to MQF Level 2 or higher in Maltese and English. 
  6. A copy of a valid Police Conduct (not older than 12 months).
