Role Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operational delivery, service standards, compliance, and commercial performance of all restaurants under their direct management, both in Malta and internationally. The role encompasses strategic leadership, financial oversight, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of brand and service quality across all sites.

Main tasks and responsibilities

1. Brand and Service Standards

  • Ensure that all restaurants maintain and deliver excellent brand standards, deeply embedding the company's culture, values, and service offerings within all operational practices.
  • Regularly audit sites to ensure consistency in brand representation and service quality.

2. Financial Accountability

  • Lead Profit and Loss (P&L) accountability for all sites, implementing effective delegation and auditing practices with General Managers and their teams to achieve financial targets.
  • Regularly review financial statements and work closely with finance teams to manage debtors and creditors effectively.
  • Provide financial insights and strategic direction to drive revenue growth and cost management.

3. Sales Strategy

  • Partner with the applicable stake holders to develop and agree on sales strategies, including setting annual rates, designing special offers.

4. Project Coordination

  • Facilitate effective communication between operations teams and the project management team to ensure seamless coordination of capital projects, including new openings and refurbishments.

5. Operational Efficiency

  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to enhance restaurant efficiency and service delivery, constantly seeking ways to optimize operations and reduce costs.
  • Implement process improvements and innovative solutions to improve operational performance.

6. Service and Product Innovation

  • Lead initiatives to advise on service and product innovation, continually driving improvements in standards and guest experiences.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and incorporate relevant innovations into the company’s offerings.

7. Guest Feedback Management

  • Monitor guest feedback through surveys and online reviews, ensuring swift and effective follow-up by management teams to address any issues.
  • Use guest feedback as a tool to continually improve service delivery and guest satisfaction.

8. Recruitment and Talent Management

  • Champion quality recruitment practices across all sites, especially focusing on senior-level hires for new openings and existing operations.
  • Conduct interviews for senior management roles and play a key role in the selection process for high-impact positions.

9. Performance Management

  • Oversee appraisals and performance management processes for General Managers, ensuring regular and appropriate training and development aligned with job descriptions and individual needs.
  • Implement a performance management framework that supports the continuous professional growth of all employees.

10. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Conduct an annual review of SOPs to ensure they are aligned with market trends and internal standards.
  • Ensure that management teams are fully adhering to SOPs, providing regular updates and training as necessary.

11. Company Culture and Values

  • Act as a custodian of the company culture and values, ensuring they are promoted and upheld across all levels of the organization.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement and morale, fostering a harmonious and productive work environment.

12. Compliance and Safety

  • Maintain full compliance with all health & safety, food safety, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all sites adhere to compliance standards, conducting regular audits and reviews.

13. Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously challenge the status quo, driving innovation and improvements in operational quality and efficiency.
  • Develop and update brand guidelines to ensure they reflect the company’s strategic vision and market positioning.
