Role Overview

The Back-End Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and application architecture that power modern web applications. This role focuses on ensuring system performance, security, scalability, and seamless integration with front-end components while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Back-End Development: Design, develop, and maintain server-side applications using JavaScript, Node.js, and MongoDB.
• API Development and Integration: Build and maintain secure and efficient RESTful APIs to support front-end functionality and third-party integrations.
• Database Management: Develop, optimise, and manage database structures to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability.
• System Architecture: Contribute to the design of scalable and maintainable application architectures.
• Code Quality and Optimisation: Apply best practices in coding standards, testing, and performance tuning to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve server-side and database-related issues.
• Continuous Learning: Stay informed about emerging back-end technologies and contribute to ongoing system improvements.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

• Education: A Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience in back-end development, ideally within cloud-based software environments.
• Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required. Knowledge of Maltese is an asset.
• Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong teamwork and relationship-building abilities.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, MongoDB, and solid experience in developing RESTful APIs. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and cloud-based deployment environments. Understanding of front-end integration principles is considered beneficial.
• Organisation: Effective time management and task prioritisation skills.
• Self-Motivated: Initiative-driven with the ability to work independently when required.
