Role Overview
The General Manager (Retail Operations) will oversee the performance and operational success of all retail branches, ensuring they achieve financial goals while maintaining outstanding service and brand consistency. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on management to optimise sales, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the role demands a results-driven leader capable of inspiring teams and driving excellence across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Direct the implementation of retail strategies that align with the Company’s long-term vision, ensuring each outlet performs effectively and meets organisational objectives.
- Operational Excellence: Manage daily operations across all retail outlets, maintaining efficiency, brand standards, and compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Commercial Performance: Set, monitor, and achieve sales and profitability targets while identifying areas for improvement in stock control, cost management, and overall outlet performance.
- People Development: Lead, mentor, and develop outlet managers and their teams to foster engagement, productivity, and a culture of high performance.
- Customer Experience & Brand: Ensure customer service excellence and consistent brand representation through active engagement, feedback evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Financial Oversight: Manage and optimise retail budgets, analyse results, and provide performance reports and recommendations to senior management.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: A tertiary qualification in Business Management, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience in leading multiple retail outlets or multi-site operations, ideally within the FMCG or hospitality sectors.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of both English and Maltese is required to succeed in this role.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey goals, expectations, and feedback.
- Interpersonal Skills: A collaborative leader with strong relationship-building abilities and a talent for motivating diverse teams.
- Technical Skills: Strong grasp of retail systems, data analytics, and performance management tools.
- Organisation: Highly organised, capable of balancing multiple priorities and delivering results under pressure.
- Self-Motivated: Driven, proactive, and capable of taking initiative to achieve results without constant supervision.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical thinker with the ability to assess challenges, implement solutions, and make sound business decisions.
