Role Overview
The Head of Accounts & Tax will oversee and guide the accounting team, including the respective managers within the department and their teams, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant accounting services. The role combines team leadership, client oversight, and process optimisation while contributing to strategic management discussions and supporting financial reporting and tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and provide accountability for the accounting team, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and high performance.
- Client Management: Directly supervise key client portfolios, ensuring satisfaction and maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Team Billing and Productivity: Monitor team performance against revenue targets, overseeing billing accuracy and efficiency to achieve financial objectives.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance: Support the preparation of financial statements under IFRS and GAPSME, assist with complex tax computations and submissions, and liaise with auditors to guarantee timely audit completion.
- Knowledge Management and Training: Identify research needs, maintain and update the knowledge library, and organise internal training sessions to strengthen team expertise.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate, harmonise, and optimise internal accounting processes, including the enhancement of existing software and workflow systems.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: A professional accounting designation such as ACCA, CPA, ACA, or CIMA is required. A postgraduate qualification in Finance, Accounting, or Business (e.g., MBA or MSc) is considered an asset.
- Experience: Extensive experience leading accounting teams and handling corporate client accounts.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required; proficiency in Maltese is an advantage.
- Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex financial information clearly and professionally to clients and team members.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong people management and collaboration skills to motivate and guide a diverse team.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, financial reporting standards, and tax compliance processes.
- Organisation: Exceptional planning and organisational capabilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive and driven to achieve team and business goals.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
