
Head of Special Projects
Working hours: Full Time
Reports to: Managing Director
Main Purpose of Job:
The Head of Special Projects will be responsible for planning and overseeing day to day activities on sites, including ensuring work on various installations are planned efficiently and in a cost-effective manner, in compliance with contract requirements and client specifications.
Individual Key Objectives:
- Taking full ownership of awarded projects, understanding contractual obligations and initiating project planning and works.
- Supervising and directing Project Managers, Site Supervisors and third-party contractors, interpreting and explaining plans, determining labour requirements and dispatching workers.
- Assisting in the tendering process, providing relevant expertise to ensure competitivity and conformity to the relevant tender.
- Conferring with the site architects/ engineers’ projects requirements, discussing and resolving work issues, complaints or construction methods difficulties,
- Making requisitions for supplies and materials to complete projects in hand.
- Planning works to avoid problems or shortages on project sites by requesting and organising the delivery and storage of equipment or materials in advance.
- Attending on a regular basis progress and management meetings, liaising in a professional manner with customers and government entities.
- Ensuring that the daily records detailing the project’s progress are being compiled, portraying a clear description of works performed, machinery used, workforce and materials utilised.
- Carrying out daily inspections of ongoing projects ensuring that all works are progressing and keeping good standards.
- Monitoring and testing the quality of the materials delivered on project sites, providing timely advice and reports to superior.
- Ensuring that OHSA health and safety legislation is implemented throughout the projects sites in accordance to company polices.
- Investigating delays, damages or accidents occurring on sites, taking corrective action and ensuring that proper procedures are followed.
- Keeping up to date with relevant government legislation and industry developments.
- Developing and promoting good communication and professional relationships between all levels of staff and employees on site.
- Ensuring all documents are kept and filled in accordance with company procedures, ensuring these are properly recorded and to forward this information to the accounts department in a timely manner.

Personal Characteristics, Skills & Experience:
- Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing in Maltese and English, in order to be able to report adequately to superiors and to form good relations.
- Conversant in the Italian language would be considered an asset
- Ability to work effectively in a team, including the ability to respond to the needs of team members and provide them with assistance as and when required.
- A relevant qualification in project management preferably at MQF Level 7.
- A technical relevant qualification in civil engineering and/or equivalent coupled with strong hands and previous practical experience in the industry would be considered an asset
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management, ideally in a similar industry.
- To be able to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
- To be open and honest at all times
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with third parties
- To have a flexible approach to work commitments at all times
- A valid driving licence is required – Category B
