Our Client operates as an import and distribution company within the retail sector. The business, part of a strong and established group, has evolved into a multifaceted enterprise, representing renowned brands synonymous with quality, value, and reliability.

Role Overview
The Sales Manager will drive the Company’s sales performance and business development efforts across Malta & Gozo. This is not just an office-based role, as a part of the working time will be spent actively engaging with retail partners, managing customer relationships, supporting the sales team in the field, and ensuring strong commercial execution. The position requires a highly proactive and hands on sales leader with the ability to grow revenue, strengthen market presence, and build enduring relationships in the marketplace.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Team Leadership: Manage, motivate, and develop the sales team, ensuring clear direction, accountability, and a strong performance culture focused on targets and results.
  • Business Development and Client Engagement: Identify growth opportunities, develop relationships with key accounts, secure new business, and expand the Company’s sales footprint across the retail sector in Malta.
  • Sales Execution: Lead front-line commercial activity through regular market visits, customer meetings, and direct support to the team in order to maximise sales opportunities and strengthen customer retention.
  • Key Account Management: Maintain and grow relationships with major retail clients, negotiate effectively, and ensure high service levels and strong commercial outcomes.
  • Market Monitoring: Track competitor activity, gather market intelligence, and identify risks and opportunities to support stronger sales decisions and market responsiveness.
  • Performance Reporting: Analyse sales performance, prepare reports, monitor targets, and recommend actions to improve revenue generation and team effectiveness.
Educational and skill requirements

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

  • Education: A qualification in Business, Sales, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience in sales management, business development, and team leadership within the FMCG or retail sector is required.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of both English and Maltese is required to succeed in this role.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and persuasive communicator, able to engage, influence, and negotiate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship builder with the credibility to develop trust and rapport quickly.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in CRM platforms, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Organisation: Skilled at prioritising multiple tasks, managing deadlines, and delivering consistent commercial results.
  • Self-Motivated: Highly driven, proactive, and committed to achieving objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Problem-Solving: Solution-oriented mindset with the ability to address challenges pragmatically and effectively.
