Role Overview
The Senior Compliance Executive will lead and oversee the organisation's compliance function, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies, and international AML/CFT obligations. This role will serve as a key advisor to management on compliance matters, driving a strong culture of regulatory compliance, risk awareness, and ethical business practices across the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing compliance monitoring activities, overseeing risk assessments, and providing guidance on complex regulatory matters.
- Regulatory Oversight: Monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact on the business, and ensure the timely implementation of required changes. Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and oversee all regulatory filings and communications.
- Compliance Framework Management: Develop, maintain, and enhance compliance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure ongoing adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
- Client Due Diligence Oversight: Review and approve client onboarding processes, ensuring robust due diligence standards are maintained in line with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Risk Management: Lead the client and business risk assessment process, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, evaluated, monitored, and mitigated throughout the client relationship lifecycle.
- AML/CFT Leadership: Oversee AML/CFT controls, sanctions screening, and ongoing monitoring activities, ensuring compliance with local and international regulatory obligations.
- Compliance Monitoring & Testing: Design and manage compliance monitoring programmes, conduct reviews, and oversee the implementation of corrective actions where required.
- Investigations & Reporting: Lead internal investigations relating to compliance matters, review suspicious activity concerns, and ensure appropriate reporting to relevant authorities when necessary.
- Stakeholder Management: Provide expert compliance guidance to senior management and business units, supporting decision-making on regulatory and risk-related matters.
- Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver compliance and AML/CFT training programmes, promoting a strong compliance culture throughout the organisation.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and support junior compliance team members, fostering professional development and maintaining high standards of performance.
- Board & Management Reporting: Prepare and present compliance reports, risk assessments, and regulatory updates to senior management and relevant committees.
- Education: A recognised qualification in Compliance, AML/CFT, Law, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field. Professional compliance certifications will be considered a strong asset.
- Experience: Minimum of three years' experience in compliance, AML/CFT, risk management, or a related regulatory function, including exposure to complex compliance environments.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of Maltese and international regulatory requirements, AML/CFT legislation, sanctions frameworks, and corporate governance principles.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead compliance initiatives, influence stakeholders, and provide strategic guidance across the organisation.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and present complex regulatory matters to senior stakeholders.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong risk assessment and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret regulations and apply them effectively in a business context.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, and familiarity with compliance monitoring and screening tools.
- Organisation & Planning: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
