Ship Chandler

MFF Ltd. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Ship Chandler to join our team. The Ship Chandler will be responsible for sourcing, supplying, and delivering provisions to our vessels, ensuring timely and accurate order fulfillment.

You will manage the procurement of food and domestic supplies, planning and stock build-up months in advance, as well as last-minute fresh provisions before vessels depart. Beyond the season, you will also handle year-round administration and cost control.

What You Will Do:

  • Plan and purchase provisions months in advance, using previous consumption data and taking advantage of special pricing.
  • Coordinate the full provisioning of vessels before departure, ensuring correct supplies reach the right vessel on time.
  • Source and procure provisions (food, beverages).
  • Manage stock levels, monitor expiry dates, deliveries, labelling, and storage throughout the year.
  • Process and fulfil supply requests from vessels prior to departure.
  • Verify supplier invoices, follow up on discrepancies, and allocate costs across vessels and departments.
  • Monitor market prices and negotiate with vendors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Maintain records and prepare forecasts for the following season.
  • Support the Accounts Department with administrative tasks during off-peak periods.

What we are looking for:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Marine Engineering qualification or equivalent mechanical trade background.
  • 5+ years in marine engineering, mechanical superintendent, or workshop supervision.
  • Proven diagnostic track record on diesel engines, hydraulics, and deck machinery.
  • Experience with small-to-medium fishing or commercial vessel fleets preferred.
  • Fishing or aquaculture industry background would be considered advantageous.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Detail oriented, sets high workmanship standards and strives to achieve results.
  • Communicates clearly with crew, suppliers, and senior management.
  • Comfortable travelling across Malta and the Mediterranean region.
  • English essential; Maltese or Italian an advantage.
  • CMMS experience would be beneficial, a valid driving licence required.
