General Scope and Purpose of Position

Our tutors are responsible for effectively planning and delivering individual and group sessions and activities in line with established standards and criteria. They will collaborate closely with the Programme Manager, Team Leader, Therapists, and other tutors to maintain high-quality practices within the department's services.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with other tutors and therapists in the case of organizing and executing external events.
  • The Tutor forms part of our interdisciplinary team. They must work alongside other members of the team in taking responsibility for carrying out activities as indicated in the Individualised Family Service Plan (IFSP) concerning the future goals and possibilities of students within the programme.
  • Liaise with other professionals within the team to offer a truly multidisciplinary service to the client. This may involve consultations with speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and physiotherapists.
  • Develop knowledge in the field s/he is working in by attending relevant educational institutions and/or training programmes as requested. This includes, but is not limited to, attending joint sessions with therapists at Inspire or elsewhere.
  • Address parents’ concerns through appropriate methods of feedback, and to seek advice when necessary.
  • Respect confidentiality in all matters relating to the clients, their families and members of staff.
  • Ensuring good quality of the overall programme – working towards and implementing best practice methods, including the TEACCH approach and SPELL framework.
  • Working towards and implementing best practice methods that meet NAS Accreditation Standards.
  • Preparation of equipment/materials and delivery of individual sessions.
  • Ensure the upkeep of the environment therefore maintaining low arousal levels.
  • Provide support and assistance addressing personal care needs such as nappy changing, toileting and hygiene procedures according to Inspire’s Policy in relation to Personal and Intimate Care.
  • In collaboration with the Speech Language Pathologist, to develop communication aids appropriate to the child’s mode of communication.
  • Greet parents and receive any feedback regarding their child as part of the morning handing over. To provide feedback to parents at the end of the day informing them of their child’s performance during their time in the programme.
  • Support school personnel in terms of promoting a helpful and optimal environment that is autism-friendly and reduces barriers to inclusion.
  • Attend school visits and maintain documentation regarding school visits, IEPs and MAPS sessions where and as needed.
  • Keep informed about the curriculum being followed at school and make this accessible to the client with autism.
  • Support the client’s LSE and teacher in creating an appropriate mode of communication, a consistent system of expectations and reinforcement to shape behavior and independent functioning.
Educational and skill requirements

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Honours)  qualification (equivalent to a  minimum of MQF Level 6) in Psychology/Education/Social science or any relevant field;
  • Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team in a relevant field (ASD, challenging behaviour) will be considered as an asset;
  • Highly proficient in English language (both spoken & written).

Prior to being recruited and throughout the duration of employment, the selected candidates need to satisfy the requirements of the Protection of Minors Act (POMA) together with those of immunization.
