We are now seeking a Head of Accounts & Tax to lead our accounting and tax practice, strengthen our advisory offerings, support our continued growth in Malta and abroad, and oversee the delivery of high-quality accounting, tax, compliance, and business advisory services.

Role Overview

As Head of Accounts & Tax, you will be one of the firm’s leading authorities on accounting and tax matters. You will manage and expand our accounting and tax services, oversee compliance across our client base, and deliver high-level advisory on structuring, cross-border planning, financial reporting, and international tax developments.

This role combines technical leadership, client engagement, operational oversight, and team management. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s accounting and tax strategy, mentoring a growing team of professionals, and ensuring we remain at the forefront of developments in Maltese and EU accounting and tax legislation.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the Accounts & Tax department, including the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and performance reports.
  • Manage a portfolio of local and international clients across accounting, VAT, tax, and advisory matters.
  • Review management accounts, financial statements, VAT returns, tax computations, and related reporting deliverables.
  • Advise clients on Maltese tax legislation, international tax matters, EU directives, double tax treaties, transfer pricing, and financial reporting obligations.
  • Manage and oversee tax and accounting compliance for corporate and individual clients.
  • Provide accounting, tax, and business advisory support to clients across various industries.
  • Drive new business opportunities in accounting and tax advisory and support partners with client pitches and proposals.
  • Build, mentor, and manage a team of accounting and tax professionals, providing guidance and technical training.
  • Manage workflow allocation, departmental deadlines, and team performance.
  • Stay abreast of changes in local and international accounting and tax legislation, advising clients and internal teams accordingly.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, tax authorities, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements, efficiencies, and service enhancements within the department.
Educational and skill requirements
  • University degree in Accountancy, Law, or a related field, with specialised qualification in tax (ADIT, Master’s in Tax, or equivalent) considered an asset.
  • Recognised professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, or warranted Accountant/Lawyer).
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience within accounting and taxation, preferably within a professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese accounting standards, VAT legislation, Maltese tax legislation, EU directives, and cross-border issues.
  • Proven track record in managing advisory projects, client portfolios, and departmental operations.
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring teams.
  • Excellent leadership, client relationship, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in English; Maltese considered an asset.
