Role Overview
This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the Group CEO and responsible for shaping and executing the organisation’s AI agenda. The successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of AI-driven initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, support smarter decision-making, and generate tangible business value. The role requires close collaboration with executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams to embed AI into core business functions and drive meaningful organisational change.
For clarity, this is an internal transformation role focused on the organisation’s own operational and business requirements, rather than a client-facing role supporting the requirements of external clients.
Key Responsibilities
- AI Strategy & Vision: Develop and maintain a long-term AI transformation strategy aligned with overall business objectives, identifying high-impact opportunities across all major functions while advising senior leadership on priorities, risks, and investment direction.
- Business Process Reengineering: Review and interpret existing workflows to uncover opportunities for automation and optimisation, redesigning processes using advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI to improve efficiency, quality, and commercial outcomes.
- Solution Delivery & Execution: Partner with technical and business teams to guide the end-to-end delivery of AI solutions, ensuring successful deployment, integration with enterprise systems such as ERP and CRM, and establishing clear performance metrics and value tracking.
- Data & Technology Governance: Establish and enforce frameworks that ensure AI solutions are developed and used responsibly, addressing areas such as data protection, ethical considerations, model transparency, security, and regulatory alignment.
- Change Management & Adoption: Lead organisation-wide adoption of AI capabilities by promoting awareness, delivering upskilling initiatives, and embedding AI literacy across teams while reporting on progress, impact, and maturity levels.
- Vendor & Ecosystem Management: Assess, select, and manage external technology partners and AI solution providers, making informed build-versus-buy decisions and maintaining effective strategic partnerships.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Education: A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in digital transformation, enterprise technology leadership, or business optimisation, including a minimum of 3 years working directly with AI, machine learning, or intelligent automation solutions.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of both Maltese and English is required to succeed in this role.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to present complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive and board-level audiences.
- Interpersonal Skills: Proven capability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced and complex environments.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, generative AI technologies, automation platforms, data ecosystems, and enterprise architecture principles.
- Organisation: Excellent ability to prioritise, structure initiatives, and manage multiple high-impact transformation programmes simultaneously.
- Self-Motivated: Highly driven individual with a proactive mindset and the ability to operate independently while maintaining strategic alignment.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a proven ability to design practical, scalable solutions to complex business challenges.
