

Tax Manager
HLB Malta is a long-established audit, accounting, tax, and advisory firm with offices in
Lija, Malta. Due to our continued growth and expanding client portfolio, is seeking to
recruit a Tax Manager, with primary responsibility for the firm’s tax compliance function.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be a Qualified Accountant with a strong background in
Maltese taxation and tax compliance, responsible for managing the tax compliance
requirements of a diverse portfolio of local and international clients.
The role will primarily involve the preparation and review of corporate tax computations,
income tax returns, shareholder tax refund applications and related tax filings, as well as
supporting junior members of the team.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing and overseeing the tax compliance requirements of a portfolio of
companies and individuals; - Preparing and reviewing corporate income tax computations and income tax
returns; - Preparing and reviewing individual income tax returns, where applicable;
- Preparing and reviewing shareholder tax refund applications and related
documentation; - Ensuring that all tax filings and compliance obligations are completed accurately
and within the applicable statutory deadlines; - Reviewing tax assessments, statements and correspondence issued by the Malta
Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA); - Handling tax registrations, de-registrations and updates to taxpayers’ records;
- Liaising directly with the MTCA in relation to tax compliance matters, queries and
outstanding issues; - Assisting clients with tax payments, provisional tax and settlement of outstanding tax balances;
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date tax records for the firm’s client portfolio;
- Monitoring filing deadlines and ensuring timely follow-up with clients for the
information and documentation required; - Reviewing accounting information and financial statements for the purpose of
preparing tax computations and returns; - Providing guidance and support to junior members of the team and reviewing
work prepared by them; - Assisting with tax-related queries arising in the ordinary course of client
engagements; and - Keeping up to date with changes in Maltese tax legislation and compliance
requirements.
- Be a qualified Accountant, preferably holding a Maltese CPA warrant or an
equivalent recognised professional qualification; - Have experience in Maltese tax compliance;
- Have a sound knowledge of Maltese income tax legislation and the Maltese
corporate tax system; - Be experienced in the preparation and review of corporate tax computations,
income tax returns and shareholder tax refund applications; - Be comfortable reviewing financial statements and accounting records for tax
purposes; - Have previous experience liaising with the MTCA and dealing with tax-related
correspondence and compliance matters; - Possess strong organisational skills and be capable of managing a portfolio of
clients and multiple statutory deadlines; - Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
- Be able to work independently while also forming part of a wider professional
team; and - Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Previous experience within an accounting, audit, tax or professional services firm in Malta
will be considered an important asset.
