Role Overview
Heroix is partnering with a leading institution in the banking sector to recruit a Team Lead within the Internal Validation function. This role sits within the risk framework and is responsible for directing and enhancing validation activities linked to BCBS 239 requirements, with particular emphasis on risk data aggregation, reporting standards and data governance. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring robust oversight, regulatory alignment and continuous improvement across validation practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Validation Framework Design: Develop and refine structured testing methodologies and control procedures to assess compliance with BCBS 239 and other applicable regulatory expectations, ensuring consistency and thorough documentation.
- Leadership and Oversight: Guide and coordinate validation activities across the function, managing workflows, setting priorities and ensuring high-quality output from the Internal Validation team.
- Compliance Assurance: Oversee the execution of validation reviews across various departments, ensuring internal policies, processes and data controls meet established regulatory and governance standards.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead constructive discussions with senior stakeholders, auditors and control functions to agree validation outcomes, address findings and resolve differences in interpretation where required.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track remediation progress, identify compliance gaps, and oversee the preparation of detailed status reports for senior management, Board-level committees and supervisory bodies, ensuring transparency and timely escalation of outstanding matters.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: An MQF Level 6 qualification in Data Engineering, Analytics, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline is required, with preference given to candidates holding a Level 6 Degree. A Master’s qualification (MQF Level 7) in a relevant field will be considered an asset.
- Experience: A minimum of five to nine years’ experience within Data Science, Data Analysis or a similar field, including at least three years leading a team, project or strategic initiative. Experience within a regulated financial environment will be highly advantageous.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Ability to present complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership and regulatory stakeholders.
- Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge constructively, build trust and influence key decision-makers across the organisation.
- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of data governance, risk data aggregation, data architecture and modelling concepts. Proficiency in analytical tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python or R, together with strong command of Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Power BI is advantageous.
- Organisation: Strong ability to manage multiple validation streams simultaneously, maintain comprehensive audit trails and ensure accurate record-keeping within structured repositories.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive and improvement-driven mindset, embracing regulatory developments and technological advancements with enthusiasm and accountability.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical thinker capable of identifying root causes of compliance gaps, evaluating remediation strategies and proposing practical, risk-based solutions.
