Role Overview
The VAT Accountant will manage a varied portfolio of clients across multiple industries, including gaming and e-commerce, ensuring adherence to VAT legislation and providing expert guidance on compliance. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth of the indirect tax function while working in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- VAT Compliance Management: Prepare, review, and submit VAT returns and related filings, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Client Account Oversight: Handle ongoing VAT compliance obligations, including registrations, deregistrations, reconciliations, and communications with tax authorities.
- Legislative Monitoring: Track changes in VAT regulations, assess the impact on client operations, and support the implementation of compliant processes and controls.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the indirect tax team by sharing technical insights and practical compliance expertise with colleagues and management to foster departmental growth.
- Collaboration and Reporting: Promote teamwork across the tax practice group and international network, ensuring timely submissions, adherence to deadlines, and regular updates to management.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: ACCA qualified or in the final stages of completing the ACCA qualification.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in VAT compliance, preferably within a professional accounting environment.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English; proficiency in Maltese is an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate within a dynamic, team-oriented setting.
- Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of VAT legislation and accounting software, with experience in Xero considered advantageous.
- Organisation: Strong organisational abilities to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines consistently.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive and hands-on approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in compliance work.
