Role Overview
This position offers an experienced audit professional the opportunity to oversee assurance assignments across a varied client base. The role involves coordinating audit activities, guiding junior team members, and ensuring that all engagements are carried out in accordance with professional standards while maintaining a high level of client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Coordination: Organise and manage audit assignments from initial preparation through to finalisation, including setting timelines, allocating resources, and maintaining regular communication with clients.
- Team Supervision: Support and guide members of the audit team by providing direction, reviewing work, and encouraging ongoing professional development.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensure that all assurance work adheres to applicable auditing standards and internal procedures while maintaining consistent quality across engagements.
- Technical Evaluation: Examine financial statements, working papers, and audit documentation to confirm accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant frameworks.
- Client Liaison: Maintain effective relationships with client representatives, acting as a key contact during audit engagements and addressing queries in a professional manner.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential areas of concern during audit work and develop suitable responses to accounting or reporting issues.
- Reporting: Communicate audit observations and recommendations clearly to clients and senior stakeholders.
- Business Support: Contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening client relationships and supporting the growth of professional services.
- Professional Awareness: Keep informed of developments in accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry practices.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Fully qualified accountant holding ACA, ACCA, CPA or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience: At least five years’ experience in external audit, including prior responsibility for supervising engagements or teams. At least two years of experience in Maltese legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Ability to present technical matters clearly in both written and verbal form to clients and colleagues.
- Interpersonal Skills: Capable of building productive working relationships and supporting a collaborative team environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of recognised accounting frameworks such as IFRS, US GAAP, or UK GAAP, together with familiarity with audit software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Organisation: Ability to plan workloads efficiently and manage several assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Problem-Solving: Sound judgement when addressing technical issues and the ability to develop practical solutions.
