Junior Analyst (FI Supervision)

About the Function

The FinTech Supervision function is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of entities operating under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and the Financial Institutions Act. The function also acts as the Authority’s centre of expertise on digital finance and FinTech-related supervisory and policy matters. The function also works closely with internal stakeholders, national competent authorities, and European institutions to ensure consistent, effective, and forward-looking supervision in a rapidly evolving digital finance environment.

About the Role

• As a Junior Analyst within the Financial Institutions Supervision Team of the FinTech Supervision Function, you will be expected to:
• Serve as a contact point with licence holders, corresponding directly with these counterparties, reporting findings and resolving issues as they arise
• Engage in initiatives in the authorisation and supervisory workstreams under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and the Financial Institutions Act as well as other related ongoing work
• Participate in onsite compliance inspections and/or interviews, ensuring that they are delivered with the required regulatory standards while interfacing with licence holders on an ongoing basis
• Undertake assessments of licence holders covering regulatory and AML/FT compliance and ICT risk
• Engage and address any regulatory issues that may arise in the normal course of the supervised entities' business to ensure that the level of compliance with applicable regulatory standards is maintained
• Liaise with the various Functions and Directorates of the Authority in the handling of the various projects and tasks, as well as other Governmental bodies and act as point of contact, when required
• Participate in local, EU, and international fora, including the relevant committees of the European Supervisory Authorities
• Undertake any other supervisory tasks or projects as delegated by line management
• Act as a digital finance and FinTech champion within the MFSA

About You

We are looking for candidates with a solid academic background in financial services, accounting, statistics, or another related field considered relevant to the function and duties associated with this role.

The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework (NQF) Level 6 or higher, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC), or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least five (5) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.
