Role Overview
The HR Officer – Payroll will be a key member of the HR team, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while upholding confidentiality and compliance standards. This role combines technical payroll responsibilities with active employee engagement, supporting the smooth running of HR operations across the Company.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Processing: Handle salary, wages, pensions, overtime, and allowances for employees across multiple companies within the Business.
- Employee Administration: Manage onboarding, offboarding, leave, and absence records, maintaining accurate HR data.
- HR Systems Management: Keep HR and payroll systems up to date, ensuring compliance with GDPR and employment regulations.
- Reporting: Prepare HR and payroll data for management, assisting with KPI tracking and informed decision-making.
- Time & Attendance: Oversee schedules, support departmental timekeeping, and assist with payroll audits and year-end submissions.
- HR Support: Contribute to broader HR functions as needed, providing guidance and support to employees on payroll and related queries.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Diploma in Human Resources or equivalent. A-Level standard of education.
- Experience: Some prior experience in payroll, ideally across one or two previous roles. Knowledge of payroll closure and calculations is essential.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of both Maltese and English is required.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and employees.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong people skills to handle daily employee interactions with professionalism and approachability.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in payroll software (experience with Indigo or SAP Success Factors advantageous) and Microsoft Excel. Comfortable using computers for day-to-day tasks.
- Organisation: Strong planning and organisational skills, especially during payroll closing periods.
- Self-Motivated: A positive, proactive approach to work, with eagerness to learn and develop professionally.
- Problem-Solving: Able to review payroll data critically and identify discrepancies.
