Role Overview

The Financial Controller plays a central role in supporting the Corporate and Strategic Projects Director by overseeing day-to-day finance operations and contributing to commercial finance initiatives. The successful candidate is expected to be proactive, hands-on, and results-driven, combining operational execution with strategic insight.

The individual will take responsibility for financial operations, including month-end close, reconciliations, payment processing, cash management, and regulatory reporting across multiple entities. In addition, they will support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting, while acting as a finance business partner to operational teams. The role balances personal accountability with team development, providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen the finance function.

This position requires a versatile finance professional capable of managing both operational and strategic responsibilities within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, where taking initiative and rolling up one’s sleeves are key to success.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Planning & Analysis: Collaborates with the Corporate and Strategic Projects Director to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
• Reporting & Analysis: Prepares, reviews, and interprets management accounts and financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow reports, providing clear insights to support decision-making.
• Month-End & Compliance: Ensures timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes, maintaining robust controls and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Financial Insights: Monitors key financial metrics and delivers actionable commentary to senior management, helping drive informed business decisions.
• Process Improvement: Leads initiatives to streamline finance processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and implement automation where appropriate, supporting continuous improvement across the finance function.
• Audit & Treasury Support: Supports audit preparation, liaises with external auditors, and assists with treasury, cash, and banking management under the guidance of the Corporate and Strategic Projects Director.
• Business Partnering: Acts as a finance advisor to operational teams, promoting financial discipline and ensuring that financial planning aligns with strategic goals.
• Operational Oversight: Oversees the day-to-day activities of the finance team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in transactional processing and routine financial operations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA) is essential.
• Experience: 3–5 years’ experience in commercial finance or financial controlling, ideally within iGaming or a high-growth environment.
• Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required; Maltese language skills are an advantage.
• Communication Skills: Clear and confident in presenting financial information to senior management and diverse stakeholders.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across the business.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel capabilities; FP&A experience preferred.
• Organisation: Capable of managing multiple priorities with precision and efficiency.
• Self-Motivated: Practical, proactive, and able to work independently while contributing to team objectives.
• Problem-Solving: Analytical and commercially minded, able to link financial outcomes to business performance.
