Role Overview
Our Client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Doctor specialising in geriatrics to provide comprehensive healthcare to residents and external patients. The role involves both in-house medical care and managing an outpatient clinic, with responsibilities extending to urgent on-call situations and preventative health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Resident Care: Conduct thorough medical assessments, diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, and develop tailored care plans addressing both physical and mental health needs. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including nursing, physiotherapy, and dietary staff.
- Outpatient Clinic Management: Operate and oversee an on-site clinic serving external elderly patients, providing consultations, treatment recommendations, referrals, and follow-up care.
- On-Call Support: Respond promptly to urgent medical situations at the residence, ensuring timely and professional care for residents.
- Preventative Health: Lead wellness programmes including screenings, immunisations, and lifestyle guidance. Educate residents and families on effective health management strategies for ageing populations.
- Medical Documentation: Maintain accurate and compliant medical records and communicate updates with internal care teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Medical degree with specialisation or experience in geriatrics. Must have a valid medical license to practice in Malta.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in geriatric care, ideally within nursing home or residential settings.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required; proficiency in Maltese is an advantage.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to clearly convey medical information to residents, families, and care teams.
- Interpersonal Skills: Skilled in building trust and rapport with elderly patients and colleagues.
- Technical Skills: Competence in chronic disease management, end-of-life care, and use of healthcare technologies in elder care and outpatient clinic settings.
- Organisation: Ability to manage multiple patients, appointments, and administrative duties efficiently.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive in addressing healthcare needs and participating in continuous professional development.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of making informed decisions during critical situations and emergencies.
