Role Overview
The Group Chief Financial Officer will provide financial leadership, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board and main shareholders. Finance is fully outsourced to a high-repute external setup. The CFO will manage and govern this outsourced component end-to-end, ensuring alignment with all statutory and regulatory obligations, strong controls, and practical support to the different business setups and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute the Group’s financial strategy in alignment with business objectives, providing clear financial direction and insight to the CEO, Board, and main shareholders.
- Outsourced Finance Leadership (End-to-End Governance): Own the relationship, scope, cadence, and performance management of the outsourced finance partner. Set clear SLAs, reporting timetables, quality standards, and escalation routes. Ensure consistent delivery across all finance outputs, including accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness.
- Group Financial Governance and Control: Strengthen internal controls, approval limits, segregation of duties, and policy adherence across all entities. Ensure the outsourced setup aligns with the Group’s governance requirements and operational realities.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Modelling: Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles across entities, develop financial models to support business planning, pricing strategies, and investment decisions, and monitor performance against agreed targets. Provide scenario planning and sensitivity analysis for key decisions.
- Cash Flow & Capital Management: Oversee cash flow planning, working capital management, and liquidity across the Group. Strengthen discipline around collections, payment governance, and supplier terms.
- Management Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate management accounts, Group reporting, dashboards, and Board packs are delivered through the outsourced partner, supported by clear CFO review, commentary, and recommendations.
- Governance, Compliance & Risk: Ensure compliance with IFRS where applicable, Maltese tax legislation, and statutory obligations, and that all filings and deadlines are met. Maintain audit readiness, evidence trails, and a strong control environment.
- Stakeholder & Investor Engagement: Act as a trusted financial counterpart to main shareholders, investors, auditors, banks, and professional advisors, maintaining transparent and credible communication at all times.
- Commercial & Strategic Support: Partner with the executive team to evaluate growth opportunities, new ventures, contracts, and major commitments, including feasibility assessments, pricing analysis, margin review, and cost control.
- C-Suite and Shareholder Advisory (Financial Consultancy): Serve as the financial consultant to the main shareholders, CEO, and C-suite. Provide independent counsel on strategy, performance, capital allocation, risk, and returns, ensuring decisions are supported by robust financial evidence and clear trade-offs.
- Process Improvement & Technology: Drive efficiencies through process optimisation and the effective use of financial systems and digital tools, improving data quality, reporting speed, and decision support.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent). A Master’s degree in Finance, Accountancy, or Business Administration will be considered an asset.
- Experience: Significant senior finance experience, ideally within group and multi-entity environments. Experience managing outsourced finance partners is a strong asset.
- Strategic Mindset: Strong ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with hands-on oversight and delivery accountability.
- Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated capability to translate financial data into practical commercial insights and strategic recommendations.
- Communication Skills: Confident, credible communicator with the ability to engage effectively with Boards, shareholders, and senior stakeholders.
- Interpersonal Skills: Relationship-driven, collaborative, and capable of building trust across the organisation and external partners.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of applicable accounting standards, Maltese tax and regulatory frameworks, and modern financial systems.
- Organisation: Highly structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple entities.
- Self Starter: Proactive, resilient, and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Problem Solving: Analytical and solutions-focused, with sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions in complex situations.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is essential; proficiency in Maltese is considered an asset.
