About Our Client
Our Client operates within the freight and logistics sector and supports businesses with the international movement of goods across sea and other transport channels, together with services covering customs procedures, warehousing and cargo insurance.
Role Overview
Our Client is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to strengthen its commercial activities and generate sustainable growth across its logistics services. Working closely with the Managing Director, the successful candidate will develop new client relationships, convert commercial prospects into business and contribute to initiatives aimed at increasing the Company’s presence within its target markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Generation: Source and develop new commercial prospects across relevant industries, creating opportunities for the Company’s freight and logistics services.
- Sales Pipeline Management: Build a structured portfolio of potential clients, actively progressing leads from initial contact through negotiation and conversion.
- Client Relationships: Establish strong professional connections with businesses involved in international trade, including importers, exporters, logistics purchasers and supply chain professionals.
- Market Development: Keep informed of changes in customer demand, industry developments and competing service providers, using this knowledge to support effective commercial planning.
- Commercial Proposals: Understand prospective clients’ transport requirements and prepare appropriate pricing proposals and logistics solutions suited to their needs.
- Sales Administration: Ensure commercial interactions, prospects and progress are properly documented within the Company’s CRM system.
- Revenue Performance: Collaborate directly with senior management on commercial objectives and take an active role in delivering agreed sales and revenue goals.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Education: Relevant academic or professional qualifications in Business, Sales, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade or a related discipline would be considered an advantage.
- Experience: Between 3 and 6 years of relevant commercial experience within freight forwarding, shipping or logistics, with demonstrable success in securing and developing business-to-business accounts.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English and Maltese is required to succeed in this role. Knowledge of Italian would be considered an advantage.
- Communication Skills: Confident communicator who can clearly explain logistics solutions, engage professionally with decision-makers and present commercial proposals effectively.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building abilities, with the confidence to establish credibility with new prospects and maintain productive business connections over time.
- Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of international cargo movements across full-container and less-than-container sea freight, air freight and road transport, together with a good understanding of Incoterms and their commercial application.
- Negotiation Skills: Commercially minded with the ability to negotiate effectively, understand client priorities and work towards mutually beneficial agreements.
- Organisation: Capable of managing multiple prospects, follow-ups and commercial priorities while maintaining clear and accurate CRM information.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive and results-focused, with the confidence to work independently, create new opportunities and take responsibility for developing the sales pipeline.
- Problem-Solving: Able to assess customer requirements, identify appropriate logistics options and respond constructively to commercial challenges.

- Compensation: A base salary of €35,000 to €40,000 complemented by a performance-linked commission structure bringing the total earnings in the region of €55,000.
