Our Client provides dependable logistics solutions to businesses across different industries and plays an important role in facilitating local and international trade.
Role Overview
The Operations Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of local trailer movements, ensuring that deliveries are organised effectively and resources are used efficiently. The role combines operational planning, team leadership, client communication and fleet coordination, with a strong focus on maintaining service standards, controlling costs and ensuring trailers are available where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivery Planning: Organise daily trailer movements, allocating routes and schedules according to delivery priorities, available resources and customer requirements.
- Team Leadership: Direct and support drivers and operational personnel, coordinating workloads and ensuring that daily activities are completed efficiently and within the required timeframes.
- Operational Management: Respond promptly to transport disruptions, vehicle or equipment concerns and other unexpected situations, implementing practical solutions to keep operations running smoothly.
- Client Coordination: Serve as a key contact for customers regarding local trailer movements, providing updates, responding to queries and maintaining positive working relationships.
- Loading and Unloading Oversight: Oversee trailer handling activities to ensure goods are processed correctly, efficiently and in line with expected operational standards.
- Shipment Tracking: Use logistics systems to monitor consignments, record delivery progress and maintain accurate operational information for reporting and follow-up purposes.
- Compliance and Safety: Work closely with relevant departments to ensure transport activities are carried out in accordance with internal procedures, applicable regulations and workplace safety requirements.
- Operational Efficiency: Review working practices and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce unnecessary expenditure and make better use of operational resources.
- Fleet Coordination: Liaise with international operations and maintenance colleagues to support trailer availability and ensure equipment required for outbound movements is appropriately maintained and ready for use.
- Trailer Control: Maintain reliable records showing the whereabouts, availability and condition of trailers located at ports, customer premises and Company facilities.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Education: Relevant qualifications in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Business Operations or a related discipline would be considered an advantage.
- Experience: A solid professional background within logistics, transport, supply chain or a related operational environment is required. Previous responsibility for coordinating people, deliveries or fleet activities would be highly beneficial.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the confidence to communicate effectively with clients, drivers, colleagues and other operational stakeholders.
- Interpersonal Skills: A collaborative and professional approach, together with the ability to lead people, maintain productive working relationships and manage different personalities in a busy environment.
- Technical Skills: Good understanding of fleet and transport equipment operations, complemented by confidence using logistics systems and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Organisation: Excellent planning and coordination abilities, with the capacity to manage competing operational requirements and determine priorities effectively.
- Self-Motivated: A proactive and dependable approach, with the initiative to take ownership of daily operations and follow matters through to completion.
- Problem-Solving: Able to remain composed under pressure, respond effectively to unexpected operational issues and make practical decisions while working to demanding deadlines.
