Senior Oracle FLEXCUBE Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Solution Architecture: Define suitable designs for sophisticated applications, ensuring that future growth, system responsiveness and ease of ongoing enhancement are properly considered.
• FLEXCUBE Expertise: Apply strong technical and functional knowledge of Oracle FLEXCUBE to investigate issues, support day-to-day platform operation and assist with system releases, migrations and upgrades.
• Software Engineering: Build dependable applications and system enhancements using appropriate development languages, frameworks and engineering methods.
• Application Support: Coordinate the resolution of software defects and service requirements across internally developed applications and third-party products, engaging external providers whenever necessary.
• Complex Troubleshooting: Examine difficult technical incidents, identify underlying causes and introduce effective solutions that strengthen platform resilience.
• Development Governance: Ensure engineering activity follows approved delivery processes, internal controls, documentation standards and established departmental practices.
• Project Ownership: Lead the technology-delivery component of high-priority initiatives, coordinating activities from early planning and design through testing, release and post-implementation support.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Translate technical matters into clear business terms, present solution recommendations and provide informed input that supports project and operational decisions.
• Collaborative Delivery: Work closely with colleagues from technology, operations and other specialist functions to achieve shared programme objectives.
• Technical Leadership: Set a strong engineering direction for the team, encourage thoughtful experimentation and promote consistently high development standards.
• Coaching and Knowledge Sharing: Help other engineers strengthen their capabilities through mentoring, practical guidance and the exchange of technical knowledge.
• Operational Availability: Participate in support arrangements for a continuously operating banking environment, which may include scheduled on-call coverage outside standard office hours.
• Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities that reasonably fall within the scope and seniority of the position when required by management.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

• Education and Experience: Candidates should satisfy one of the following combinations:
  • An MQF Level 6 qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology or a comparable discipline, together with at least five years of relevant software engineering experience; or
  • At least seven years of professional experience in software engineering where a relevant academic qualification is not held; or
  • An MQF Level 6 Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related subject, accompanied by no fewer than three years of relevant professional experience.
• Professional Certification: Recognised credentials in software development would be advantageous.
• FLEXCUBE Knowledge: Substantial experience with Oracle FLEXCUBE is essential, including the ability to support intricate core banking operations from both functional and technical perspectives.
• Implementation Exposure: Familiarity with recent FLEXCUBE deployment, migration or version-upgrade programmes is strongly preferred.
• Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
• Communication Skills: Able to explain detailed technology concepts clearly to technical colleagues, business representatives, senior stakeholders and external service providers.
• Interpersonal Skills: Builds productive working relationships across different disciplines and contributes positively within collaborative delivery teams.
• Technical Skills: Demonstrates advanced software design, development and diagnostic capabilities, supported by sound knowledge of architecture, application integration and production support.
• Organisation: Capable of balancing operational incidents, project deadlines and engineering priorities within a business-critical technology environment.
