Our Client delivers customised solutions covering corporate administration, taxation, investments, regulatory obligations, family governance and wealth management.
Role Overview
The Accounts Executive will form part of the Client Accounting team and report to the Head of Business Operations. The position involves managing day-to-day accounting activity, contributing to periodic reporting and tax-related work, and helping ensure that client accounts remain complete, reliable and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting Records: Post financial activity accurately and ensure that client ledgers are regularly reviewed and kept current.
- Payables and Receivables: Process amounts due to and from relevant parties, investigate differences and follow up on overdue balances when required.
- Document Management: Maintain an orderly filing system for invoices, receipts and related evidence across electronic and physical records.
- Client Set-Up: Assist with the financial aspects of onboarding new clients, including creating ledger structures and entering initial accounting information.
- Financial Reporting: Contribute to the preparation of management accounts and other financial information required at monthly, quarterly and year-end stages.
- Budget Support: Help compile budgets, compare actual spending against agreed figures and highlight relevant variances.
- Cash Flow Monitoring: Track incoming and outgoing funds and assist with the preparation of financial projections.
- Account Reconciliations: Compare bank activity and accounting balances, resolving inconsistencies and confirming that entries are properly supported.
- Tax Assistance: Support the completion of VAT and corporate income tax filings by gathering, checking and organising the required financial information.
- Regulatory Compliance: Carry out accounting duties in line with applicable local and international financial requirements.
- Audit Coordination: Prepare supporting evidence and respond to information requests to help external auditors complete their work efficiently.
- Professional Studies: Continue progressing towards a recognised accounting qualification in accordance with the agreed study plan.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Education: Candidates should ideally be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or have completed approximately half of the ACCA qualification.
- Experience: Previous exposure to an accounting environment, ideally amounting to around two years, would be advantageous.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Able to exchange financial information clearly and professionally with clients, colleagues and external auditors.
- Interpersonal Skills: A cooperative and dependable team member who can build respectful working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Accounting Knowledge: A sound understanding of fundamental accounting practices and the regulatory responsibilities relevant to financial record-keeping.
- Technical Skills: Comfortable using accounting platforms and digital record-management tools. Familiarity with Xero would be considered beneficial.
- Attention to Detail: Capable of reviewing numerical information carefully and identifying omissions, errors or inconsistencies.
- Organisation: Able to manage several priorities, maintain well-structured documentation and complete assignments within the required timeframes.
- Self-Motivated: Demonstrates a positive attitude towards learning, professional studies and taking ownership of assigned work.
- Adaptability: Willing to learn unfamiliar systems, adjust to updated procedures and respond constructively to changing business requirements.
- Problem-Solving: Able to examine accounting differences, trace their source and take appropriate steps to resolve them.
